Garrulous SAITM student Dilmy who files action against Medical Council!
A dialogue of protest is spreading around the country by now against the private University of Medicine in Malabe. The said institute however is continuing its activities amidst this and other protests launched by hospital strikes.
In the meantime it is heard of a young girl who has come
forward to file action against the wave of protests. It is Dilmy Suriaarachchi from Piliyandala who is supposed to be a garrulous character. Dilmy who has finished her Degree at Malabe University of Medicine is popular as a person who has won the All Island English Debating Contest too. In the writ forwarded by the Medical Council making her the the chief respondent what she says is that she has completed her Degree at the Malabe University of Medicine; but the request made by her to register her as a Doctor of Medicine considering her as a graduate of medicine has been rejected by the Medical Council.

The authorities of the Medical Council and 5 other parties have have already made requests to mediate in this issue against the petition she has brought forward and it was decided that the petition would be considered by the Appeal Courts on the 2nd of next month. President's Counsel Mr. Rumesh de Silva has placed the relevant facts at the Appeal Courts on behalf of petitioner, the medical student. On the other hand what President's Counsel Mr. Akram Mohammed who appears on behalf of the Sri Lanka Medical Counsel says is that the Medical Counsel holds the responsibility of preventing admission to the Field of Medicine to whoever does not possess a proper training as stated in the Act of Medicine No. 26 1927. In the same way a committee headed by 10 Professors and practitioners of medicine who checked the conditions of Malabe University of Medicine say that this particular University of Medicine has failed even to fulfill requirements on a basic level either. He had further mentioned that apart from an undergraduate of medicine, activities of the university concerned have not fulfilled conditions which could not be accepted even as a medical student.
The petition is to be considered in the future. The speech presented at last year's 'Speech Masters' Contest by the SAITM student who voices her opinion saying that injustice has been done to her, is seen below
