Basil Rajapaksa remanded for misappropriating Divi Neguma funds

During the era of the previous government the former minister of economic development Basil Rajapaksa is alleged to have misappropriated large sums. These allegations of misappropriation of funds had been scrutinized by the officers of the police financial crimes investigation unit. Basil Rajapaksa had been remanded on an earlier occasion for the same offence when complaints received were investigated into.

Former Chief Justice was forced to be sent home when she had delivered a verdict against Basil Rajapaksa when complaints were investigated into misappropriation of large sums of Divi Neguma funds for projects.

However the then government had approved the sums utilized from the Divi Neguma account coming under the purview of the ministry of economic development.
