Somawansa Amarasinghe passes away - Update 2
After the demise of Mr. Somawansa Amarasinghe the former JVP leader and the present leader of the Janatha Sevaka Party, though some differences of opinion in a political sense have surfaced when paying respects to his body, various conflicts of opinion have now apparently been resolved, it is reported.
Mr. Jayantha Wijeysingha the national organiser of the Janatha Sevaka Party had stated that the final rites in relation to his body is being done only by his Party and relatives of Mr. Amarasinghe's family. He has aired this idea of
protest as response to the statement expressed to the effect that it is the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna who have undertaken the brunt of carrying out these final rites of the funeral. He had said so because Mr. Somawansa had been disappointed with that Party during the last stages of his life. It is stated in his statement that he looks down upon the disgusting politics that is being tried to be performed by the JVP who insulted Somawansa in the most averse manner possible when he was still living.
Whatever it is, the JVP as well as Jathika Nidahas Peramuna of the Wimal group and all other Party leaders had had been present yesterday to pay their last respects to Mr. Amarasinghe's body and they had all comported themselves there sharing their ideas amicably seated together. In the process his kith and kin even had to approach courts to arrive at a decision on a suspicion that had arisen about how his demise took place with Mr. Somawansa bleeding from his nose. The reason for it is the fact that Mr. Mayura Amarasinghe the father's younger brother had forwarded the suspicion in that respect to courts.
In the end the courts exclaimed that there is no suspicion about it and it was concluded that it was a natural death in accordance with judicial medical reports. Under such circumstances the police did not resort to a post-mortem as such. In the meantime Mr. Somawansa Amarasinghe's only son too arrived yesterday from England to pay his last respects to his father.
By this time the dead body is kept at Mr. Somawansa's sister's residence at Battaramulla. According to the request made to conduct his funeral in the most simple manner it would be done tomorrow (18) as visualised by him at 5 in the evening at Borella Kanatta tomorrow.
