JVP absent at kanatta activities of Somawansa's funeral

Attention was focused on the fact as reported earlier that the JVP who had discrepancies with Somawansa Amarasinghe during the last stages of his life coming forward to represent him on his behalf created unpleasantness among members of

his family and towards the end period of his demise with political comrades as well. As such this conflict had emerged at the moment the final rites were being conducted on Saturday and when a certain monk affiliated to the JVP was to make a speech at the moment when the 'panshakoolaya' was in operation steps had been taken to stop it.

Because of the above reason members of the JVP had taken steps to keep away from the proceedings when final rites were being conducted at the kanatta. The JVP had not been allotted any speeches for the JVP when the funeral committee made speeches at kanatta. Whatever it is, members of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna had remained at Mr. Somawansa's home until about 8 in the night, it was reported.
