Mahinda visits Late Manawadu's home

As soon as news of the death of the demise of Major General Sumith Manawadu in hospital
came into the ears of former President  this morning, he had visited the deceased's home. Even by that time the body had not been brought to the residence and the former President had expressed his sorrow to members of his family.

The Late Mr. Manawadu had been appointed as the Malaysian Ambassador during Mahinda Rajapaksa's regime and it is understood that the Major General was a close confidant of the former President. Mr. Manawadu came into news because of an incident which involved him dragging Mr. Sarath Fonseka and taking him to custody after the General Election. It was an incident which created a great sensation in political circles.

The former President had visited Mr. Manawadu's home and had reminisced the duties he performed on behalf of the country, it is learned. The death of Mr. Manawadu took place quite unexpectedly when a rafter had fallen on his head while at a private worksite and had thus suffered serious injury. Whatever it is, the website of Wimal Weeravansha had reported that the hospital had reported that the injury sustained by the deceased has not taken place in that manner but it could be that it could be due to an assault.

The Major General who sustained injury on the afternoon of last 4th was initially admitted to the Army Hospital and had later been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital and had been subjected to three emergency operations but without success. The final rites of the Major General will be announced later.
