Basil Rajapaksa arrested!
Former Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Basil Rajapaksa has been taken int custody by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division this afternoon (12), it was reported.
He has been arrested on suspicion over a transaction relating to a land in Matara. He has bought a land of one and a half acres in Brownshill, Matara and a court case for not declaring his assets in this connection is presently being heard at Matara Courts against him and this arrest has been done based on that transaction. Even on a
previous occasion he had been taken into custody by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division and had been sent to jail.
There was a rumour that circulated that 'after May 2nd there is no forgiveness from me', which was a statement uttered by President Maithripala Sirisena and he rumour also implied that the Rajapaksas with dirt on their hands would be caught. The Joint Opposition who reveal that the arrest of Basil would take place according to a planned set up and their websites had published reports saying, 'today a Rajapaksa will be caught'. Basil Rajapaksa has been taken away for police interrogation and he is expected to be produced before Matara Magistrate.
