Millionaire businessmen's son who had raped a University student ordered to pay Rs 27 lakhs as compensation
The son of a millionaire businessman by saying that he is the Officer in Charge of the Ja-Ela police station had frightened a University student who had been in a bus halt on a Vesak day waiting for a bus to go home and taken to a house belonging to his father and raped her. When the case was taken
up at the Western province Magistrate courts yesterday the 03rd instant ,the Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratna had convicted the accused millionaire businessman's son and sentenced him for 37 years rigorous imprisonment.
In addition the Chief Magistrate had ordered a sum of rupees twenty seven lakhs to be paid as compensation to the affected University student and also fined him a sum of rupees forty five thousand for the offence committed.
The son of the millionaire businessman is a resident of no 339 ,Wewlduwa road, Hunupitiya Wattala named Hewatantirige Nuwan Janaka a 28 year old person.
While giving the verdict the Chief Magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratna had said that with power and money the future of the innocent University girl was ruined who was to shine in the country.In order to satisfy your sexual desires you had damaged her future to unprecedented level.In such cases the suspect has to be given the maximum punishment she had added..
