Wonderful punishment given to father of two ....

who abducted girl to hold board on the road!

News is reported from Kandana of an incident of wonderful punishment meted out to a married person who was assaulted and forced to hold a

board in public and the board depicted the words 'Mama baala vayaskaara deriyak dooshanaya kalaa!' (I raped a girl who was a minor).

A father of two who cultivated a romance with a girl aged 15 years living in First Milepost in Kandana was subjected to this punishment. This person who carried on a clandestine communication with this girl had called her on the sly on the morning of December 21st and had taken her to a certain spot in Anuradhapura area. When this girl who was in a house in Anuradhapura had called home on the telephone on which occasion the householders had come to know that the girl had scooted off with the person concerned. In fact she had gone away on her own wishes in this manner with the motive of living with him.

However, on the complaint made to Kandana Police by the parents about the girl having been taken away and the fact that the girl being a minor, the Child and Women's Investigation Unit of the police station commenced their investigations. During the process when police investigations were underway, the man concerned had to return home with the girl as a result of a strategy employed by the parents of the girl.

In this manner the girl's parents managed to corner him with the support of their accomplices unknown to the police and subsequently his two hands had been tied together and further had been asked to write the words 'Mama baala vayaskaara deriyak dooshanaya kalaa' on a piece of board and after that he was ordered to stand at a public place and was asked to hold the board. Thus he had kept standing at a pavement where people had been moving about in Kandana area in fear of those who assaulted him. In this manner he had become the laughing stock of those moving to and fro in the said area, it was reported. Having subjected him to this punishment for a number of hours he was later handed over to the Kandana Police Station.

It was after that this that the victim who was at the mercy of assault had explained matters to the police about the battering he was subjected to. He had been admitted to Ward No. 7 of Ragama Hospital for treatment and the police are preparing to produce him before courts regarding the abduction and abuse of the girl. However, the police say that a separate enquiry would be conducted regarding the punishment meted out to him. Two persons who had assaulted this father of two have already been taken into custody. They had said that they engaged in this assault at the request of the parents of the girl. The girl abducted by him has been handed over to Ragama Hospital for a medical examination. Kandana Police are conducting further investigations in relation to the incident concerned.
