Student who counter-attacked teacher-of-disciple with stump ....
for having beaten him asking him to cut his hair!
A student of Siridhamma Vidyalaya in Labuduwa, Galle had aimed a blow on a
teacher's head with a cricket-stump and had caused serious injury to him which finally ended up with the teacher being admitted to hospital and subsequently having had to undergo a surgical operation.
The victim in this instance is one Mahesh Dodangoda a teacher who functions as the Assistant Principal and Master-of-Discipline in that school. The assault has been made by a 17 year old student of grade 12 in the school preparing for the advanced level exam. The reason for this attack was that the said teacher had advised the student to go and get his hair cut.
The teacher explaining the incident says that because this student who had come to school after holidays by wearing long hair adorned with a funny hair-style which was not suitable for the school, he had advised the student. The student who answered back had responded saying, "I grow my hair the way I want .... you needn't give me advice!" At that moment the teacher had reprimanded the student asking him to keep his mouth shut and so saying he had given some blows to the student. Even prior to that this student had on numerous occasions been given some blows for his uncontrolled behaviour and had also suffered an ailment in his neck. Because of that the student had told the teacher concerned, "It doesn't matter if you hit me ... spare my neck ... my neck is still paining!" In that instance the teacher who took no notice of what the student said had dealt a blow on the student's neck. Subsequently the student had been advised not to come back to school without taking a haircut and the teacher had left the place and was walking along a corridor at which moment the student had come behind the teacher unaware to him arming himself with a cricket-stump from a nearby sports room and had dealt a heavy blow on the teacher's head from behind. The teacher had then collapsed bleeding profusely from his head and was hospitalised with the support of other teachers.
The Assistant Principal who was the victim of this assault was thus admitted to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, Galle. As the condition of the injury was serious the teacher was expected to be directed to a surgery last evening.The schoolboy was taken into custody by Akmeemana Police and is to be produced before courts.
