Court Officials had kept pens and pencils ready to grant Hirunika bail in two hours - Gammanpila
At a media briefing held at the headquarters of Pivithuru Hela
Urumaya the Member of Parliament Udaya Gammanpila had commented that when such intellectuals like Nalaka Godahewa is kept remanded for no such offence the UNP Member of Parliament for Colombo district Hirunika Premachandra is allowed bail within no time. He had questioned whether this is the change the government promised for the people.
During the media briefing Member of Parliament Udaya Gammanpila had added that on the 04th instant Hirunika Premachandra had been produced to Number 02 court of the Magistrate courts and had been released almost immediately. He had added that this information had not been received via a superstitious manner but from a higher official of the Police department.
In this connection Udaya Gammanpila had drawn attention to the plight of Nalaka Godahewa who has not been granted bail may be because he had absconded in coming to courts and as perhaps if he is released he may use some pressure. But he is at a loss to understand as to why Hirunika was released so quickly..
According to Udaya Gammanpila people are scared to go to the Police station on Fridays as if on production to courts bail is not allowed they would get remanded until Monday. On the other hand Gammanpila had added that Hirunika was produced on Saturday to another office in courts open half day where they had stayed with pens and pencils ready to allow bail to Hirunika. He had wanted to know the amendment to the 19th amendment of establishing police commissions it for this change.
