Young man abducted and his blood taken by force ....

and abandons him by roadside

When some patient requires blood in Sri Lanka for his or her necessity, there are several alternatives in such an instance. These
alternatives are, to secure the type of blood necessary from the Blood Bank, or the services of a wellwisher who donates blood or else securing blood in lieu of money. A new system which is not categorised under any of the above however was reported recently.

It was a method where a case of 'plundering' blood by force. An unidentified clique of people who had come in a van recently had abducted a 20 year old young man who was walking on a crossing at Malay Street, Slave Island after which he was made unconscious and then his blood been extracted. Later he had been taken to Negombo and left him by the roadside.

This youth had been living in Amparai Central Camp area and was serving at a place where air conditioners were being repaired. This young man, Jamaldeen Azardeen was going to work temporarily from a lodging place in Kew Road. Last 28th about 9.30 in the morning the young man had been walking on a crossing down Malay Street when 3 youth with the driver who were in a van had kidnapped him. The young man had pleaded saying, "leave me alone" which had fallen on deaf ears; as one of the kidnappers has had a weapon in his possession he had been frightened, the young man had told the police. He also said that when he was being abducted, his height was measured and his weight checked and that when inside the van he was made to drink something and consequently he had lost his consciousness. At that point, he also had said that they had taken steps to extract blood from his elbow region.

After a short while the abductors had dropped him by the van and had beat a retreat. When he had regained his conscience he had found that he had been abandoned somewhere in Negombo area. This young man who once again returned to Colombo had related his story to Slave Island Police. By now the youth has been admitted to the National Hospital, Colombo. Slave Island Police are conducting inquiries.
