Train driver under booze ....
Even the assistant can't drive
Passengers in trouble make commotion at Ragama Station
A train moving towards Rambukkana this evening was stopped at Ragama Railway Station for a long
time and passengers who were to travel in that train in order to investigate about it had checked the driver's cubicle and were able to see the driver in a drunk state unable to even get up. On enquiring whether it was possible for assistant drivers to take the responsibility of driving the train, what they had said was that they were not in a position to do so. Even the railway guards had scooted away that time. As there was nothing else to do, the passengers had taken an action to hand over the driver under liquor to the police.
Because of this situation hundreds of passengers who were to go home after work had fallen into severe inconvenience and had become outraged which resulted in the passengers creating a commotion. The passengers who were fretful had begun to stand obstructing in a manner that the railway tracks were blocked and protesting, creating obstructions for other trains to proceed. As for this reason about 10 other trains had to break journey on the way, it was told. The situation was possible to be brought under control around 10 in the night with the mediation of the General Manager of Railways. Due to this incident a large crowd of passengers were put into inconvenience.
