Wimal Weeravansha, leader of Jathika Nidahas Peramuna remarked at a media briefing held today

that the Alliance would have been able to secure more votes than the United National Party if the President refrained from launching those barriers for which he was responsible.

He explained that voters of the Alliance had decided not to go to polling booths because a sort of confusion that took place in the minds of a certain section of the public as a result of the statement of the speech made by him against Mahinda Rajapaksa almost at the outset of the election, the letter forwarded with elections just at hand and the removal of the Alliance and SLFP Secretaries.

In the process he also stated that something out of the ordinary could be observed in election results of Kandy, Colombo, Gampaha and Kegalle Districts and that he is engaged in making a study of it. What he says is that a previously prepared type of result could be noticed in election results of certain districts. Whatever it is, he remarks that other than working as a strong Opposition, since they comprise 95 seats, there is no idea to be permanently a tail of the UNP and to be traitors. He says that in recent times the Opposition has not claimed such a power. He adds that if the government does something good, support could be given towards it as a progressive Opposition.
