The results of the final preferential votes had been delayed because of Ravi Karunanayake

After the conclusion of the general election there had been a number of  delay in publishing the preferential votes of the candidates who contested from the Colombo district.
At the Royal College election results operational centre at around 11 pm  on the 18th night all the preferential votes had been completed and were announced. At that time a representative, a secretary lawyer of Ravi Karunanayake Tissa Jinadasa had raised objections that there had been a mistake that had taken place in respect of the preferential votes results of the Colombo district UNP candidate Ravi Karunanayake.

Hence his votes were recounted making all the reporters, and the followers of the general election waiting until the morning  3 a.m of the 19th until the recount was completed which had not revealed any discrepancy.

The total preferential votes recounted remained at the same 111,394 but this caused a time wastage for many involved in the counting process.
