A sword found by the STF personnel beneath the stage in Mawanella where Ranil was to address

Yesterday the 02nd instant the leader of the United National Party and the Prime Minister

Ranil Wickremasinghe was to address a rally at 3 p.m. As usual a routine inspection of the stage and the surrounding was made by the Special Task Force personnel.

There had been a fruit stall right behind where the stage was erected. A special task force police officer had detected a sharp sword  beneath the stage that was erected.

In this connection a suspect and the sword that was detected had been taken in for questioning. The police is at a loss to understand why this sharp sword was kept underneath the stage and for what reason. Investigations are been conducted in this regard.
