SLFP TREASURER S.B. NAWINNA ....
CROSSES OVER TO UNP
Minister S.B. Nawinna, Treasurer of SLFP who criticised giving given nominations to former President Mahinda
Rajapaksa to contest at the forthcoming elections has decided to join the United National Party. He had mentioned about this by attending an SLFP meeting of Kurunegala District held in Wariyapola today. On that occasion he had seriously criticized Mahinda being given nominations. Subsequently, addressing the media Mr. Nawinna had made a special statement confirming that he would be contesting the forthcoming General Election on the United National Party ticket saying that he had gone to meet United National Party leader Mr. Ranil Wickremasingha and had promised to win over 9 seats from Kurunegala. He said that what he expected in that case is only a Cabinet Minister Post in order to further serve the people in that area.
He further mentioned that he was earlier an SLFP member of the Kurunegala District and that he was in possession of the voting 'machine' of the district but had foregone it within the current activity of the SLFP. As such, Mr. Nawinna would henceforth be launching his Kurunegala voting campaign for the UNP.
Mr. Nawinna has not been made to participate at the meeting held in secret at Susil Premajayantha's house to discuss about giving nominations to Mahinda in the company of stalwarts of the SLFP recently.
