Minimum age for child recruitment increased to 16 years from 14 years
The Chairman of the National Child protection authority attorney at law Natasha Balendra had
quipped that it has been proposed by the authority to increase the minimum age of children to be employed would be 16 years instead of the stipulated 14 years that exists now.
This had been proposed when the International Day for children was held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.This has been as when children are employed at the age of 14 years their education get disrupted.
At the same time the minimum age to be admitted to school also would be revised.
It was also added that laws would be enacted against those who cause mental and physical harm to children while at school.
