Parts of a human skeleton with evidence pointing
to suicide of a police sergeant who went missing 3 years before this was discovered day before yesterday (3) in the reserve close to the eighteenth Tunnel situated between Pattipola and Idalgashinna along the upcountry railroad.
In a purse inside which was found a letter lying close to his bones there was information pertaining to the sergeant. The deceased A.M.G.P. Pushpakumara (48) who served with the Settikulama Police had made a request via the said letter that if his dead body was found, to hand it over to the police and to hand over his mobile phone etcetera to his Loku Duwa (eldest daughter).
It was understood that this police sergeant had been missing from the year 2012. Near the police uniform were found together with his clothes, parts of human bones and the purse containing a letter, the police identity card, the national identity card, the police cap, the belt, the toothbrush and the clothes bag. The police say that it has been confirmed that parts of the body so located belongs to him. It is assumed that this death has occured on 14th October, 2012 or a date in close proximity.
The corpse was located when Wild Life Officer Mr. Daminda Sampath of Pattipola Beettu of the Wild Life Conservation Department happened to be on his daily rounds attending to his duties when he spotted a police uniform and skeleton in the forest and had then informed Nanu Oya Police about it.
This police sergeant had been living in Thalawa area and had later gone to live in Mawathagama area in Kurunegala. The police also suspect that he may have taken his life because of domestic problems. Further investigations are underway.
