The proposal to make Mahinda Premier turned down by President for the second time
The proposal to make the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa the Prime Minister candidate
from the United Peoples Freedom Party in the forthcoming general elections by the representatives of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance was turned down by the incumbent President Maithripala Sirisena for the second time it is reported.
There had been a meeting yesterday by the representatives of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance to formulate strategies as to in what manner a mechanism is to be made with the participation of the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to face the forthcoming general election. This proposal to Maithripala Sirisena had been made when this meeting was held with the participation of members 14 parties of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance.
It is reported that the representatives of the 14 parties collectively had brought forward the proposal to elect the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the nominee for the post of Prime Minister in the upcoming general election. This had been strongly turned down by Maithripala Sirisena.Anaother proposal was also then brought to elect the Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa as the candidate for the Prime Minister.This was not given any attention but the President Maithripala Sirisena had made only a sarcastic smile for the proposal and answered for another question posed to him.
