Parliament in confusion because of impeachment against Ranil ....
Even UNPers placing their signature?
Will parliament be dissolved today or tomorrow ....
before 20th Amendment?
After signing the 19th Amendment and finishing the 100 Day Programme of the new regime, the political outlook of Sri Lanka has taken on a new facelift by now. Since those who were involved with corruption in the past government are being continuously taken into custody instead of being 'petted', as a situation of pressure being inflicted on them, counter attacks in that connection has already commenced.
Political sources have revealed that an impeachment proposal has been prepared by the Opposition group of parliamentary members against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasingha to be handed over to the Speaker on Wednesday (20). Though 20 signatures of parliamentary members are sufficient in the case of an impeachment proposal to be handed over, at its inception it was announced by the relevant Party that 113 MPs would be placing their signatures in this respect.
It is also reported that the parliament may be dissolved even before the 20th Amendment in the face of the prevalent crisis. Discussions have begun between President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasingha and it has also been reported that a decision in this connection would be arrived at today or tomorrow.
MP Manusha Nanayakkara who spoke regarding the subject of the impeachment against Ranil mentioned that a group of MPs of the UNP too are to place their signatures in favour of this impeachment. However that statement has been rejected by Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera.
