As a result of inclement weather the public in a number of areas in the island have faced

inconvenience.

When traffic was in progress this morning around 8.30 a large Mara Tree collapsed on vehicles causing serious damage to 2 three-wheelers, 2 motor cycles and a small lorry at the main junction of Pitugala in Malabe along New Kandy Road.  A person who was going on a motor cycle died because of this incident while two others were wounded. At the time this massive Mara Tree was coming down two other trees there had also collapsed simultaneously, thus causing severe damage. The victim who met with death was a 54 year old person from the same area.

Removing the fallen trees has been over by now. As a result of this incident traffic along New Kandy Road were disturbed and by now everything has come back to normal.
