RMV driving test hereafter on a track inside Werahera ....

should pass a CCTV monitoring report also

Those who apply for a driving license upto now have had to face the practical test held by the
Department of Motor Traffic, on public roads. The applicants will have to face the test at the department office in Werahera for the test and for this purpose the 120 Horana route in Colombo would be used while they are expected to drive a short distance on adjoining roads of offices outside Colombo and the license will be examined thereby. However this system is not successful because every applicant is not subjected to the similar examination and because only a limited number is subjected to examination on a random basis. As an alternative to this, the extent of a three and a half acre land inside the Werahera main office of the Motor Traffic Department is being erected these days which is meant as a driver examination track separately created for this very purpose.

This track which is a project costing Rs. 93 million is being erected under three phases and its preliminary operations is expected to be completed in another 7 months. As such, those coming to Werahera from the year 2016 onwards to obtain their licenses would have to undergo a test on the track which has been designed in a triangular shape. This track comprises of bends, hills, slopes of various shapes and it would be possible to examine all points covering the road rules. It is said that all throughout this track CCTV recordings is to be monitored in its entirety and apart from the check carried out by an examining officer issuing the license a repeat examination would be carried out on the applicant. While it would not be possible to offer a bribe to the officers under this system and thereby pass the test, it would also be possible to provide international driving licenses under international standards.

After this track is opened at Werahera, the Department of Motor Traffic has made arrangements to erect similar tracks at Kalutara and Kandy too.
