Weerasekara was the only Member of Parliament who had voted against the amendments to the 19th resolution of the Parliament when the voting took place yesterday the 28th instant.

Citing reasons for his decision he has added that he voted against the amendment to the 19th resolution as it was against his conscience if he did. He has added that the LTTE fought a terrific war to have a state of their own in the North.By passing these amendments it again indirectly paves the way for the same reason.
He has added that the amendments to the 19th were made by persons like TNA’s Sumanthiran, Jayampathy and the likes.
There would be 09 minority personnel would be appointed to National Executive council. They will be responsible for the appointment of Inspector General of Police, the Auditor General, Attorney General and similar important persons. By establishing independent commissions the power vested on the President will become very much less.
In accordance with the 154th amendment to the constitution the President will not have powers to dissolve Provincial councils. That is the reason he has decided to vote against the 19 th.He also had said there had been many who wanted to vote against along with him but they finally let him down.
As it is he has gone against the party decision and is prepared to face any punishment for voting against the 19th.
