UNP do not prefer to postpone general election


UNP do not prefer to postpone general election:

The United National Party does not at any cost want to postpone the general election as promised
before the presidential election. They prefer to have the general election within the 100 days programme as mentioned in the election manifesto of the then common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

This was added by the general secretary of the UNP, Minister of Highways, Investment Promotion and Higher Education Kabbir Hasshim, addressing the media at a meeting held at the UNP headquarters, sirikotha,  Kotte the day before yesterday.

He also had said that some including the leader of the Jathika Hela Urumaya. Member of Parliament Ven.Athureliye Rathana thera had insisted that the general election should be held by dissolving the Parliament within 100 days as pledged. The General Secretary and Minister Kabbir Hasshim, had said to the media during the press briefing their election that the UNP intends commencing their election propaganda meetings for the forthcoming general election island wide commencing on March 15th.
