Chandrika orders the defence secretary to be removed
The former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga had quipped seriously that the defence
secretary B.M.U.D Basnayake needs to be removed from his post and in this connection she would be speaking to the president Maithripala Sirisena. This she had attributed to two main reasons. The first reason is that the defence secretary had issued a letter to the Chairman of the floating arms company Avant Guarde which is against the orders issued by courts that would make possible for him to travel abroad. The second reason is that the defence secretary had granted leave to the additional secretary of the defence secretary Damayanthi Jayaratne while the Case on the floating arms company Avant Guarde is in progress.
