Wimal's wife Sashi Weerawansha flees from home
Wimal had said "Won't catch Hamine" as a strategy!
The police had been on the search for Sashi Weerawansha, wife of parliament member Wimal Weeravansha for weeks for having prepared bogus State diplomatic passports;
however police have mentioned that she fled from her house at Kaduwela and had disappeared from from all suspected places of hiding. Wimal Weeravansha has subjected the police investigations to ridicule by saying at the recent Nugegoda rally, "they say that my hamine will be arrested today ... tomorrow; but not a soul comes ... don't even take a statement ... waiting to give a statement if they ask!" But what the police conducting inquiries on this matter say is that this statement of Wimal has been done with the motive of leading astray those investigations. The police further suspect that Wimal may have sent his wife away from home knowing all this.
The bogus documents have been prepared using the years 1961 and 1971 by Wimal's wife under the names Shirja Weeravansha and Shehasa Udayanthi and though media reports were published in this connection across several newspaper websites for a number of years, the police attended to these reports under the former government as if they were not aware of anything.
She had travelled overseas on a number of occasions from the passports prepared under bogus documents and it was reported in the media that she had made use of this as a result of the differences in age (in years) for the sake of securing certain privileges.
It is apparent that the police have taken more interest in arresting Sashi Weerawansha after Wimal's speech in Nugegoda and there is a possibility that Wimal may be questioned about his wife's disappearance. The police have stated that 6 police teams have been deployed to conduct investigations in this respect.
