Notice issued on Mahinda Rajapaksa

Notice issued on Mahinda Rajapaksa for having summoned the army on early morning of election results!

Without any permission of Election Commissioner, early morning on election day the former President
had given orders and summoned the armed forces against which act the Peratugami Samajavadi Party had filed a petition at the Supreme Courts of violating the Fundamental Rights of the citizens for which former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and other respondents were issued notice by the three-member bench of Supreme Courts to appear on March 31st in courts. Solicitor General Mr. Suhada Gamlath is expected to appear on behalf of the Attorney-General on that day.

The government in rule at that time removed Emergency Regulations in August 2011. Though the situation was such, the said government continued to issue regulations every month by transferring police powers to the Army, Navy and Air Force thus covering the entire island by making use of Civil Defence Act section 12. As such though an impression was created that a democratic environment is created by removing Emergency Regulations, the government in actuality continued with the activation of military threat and thus ruling the citizens of the country.

This Fundamental Rights petition that has been filed by quoting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the main respondent was based on the fact that the Fundamental Rights of all citizens of Sri Lanka was violated by transferring police powers to the armed forces and thus through the regulations that have been issued by him.
