Final speech made this morning (9) - by Mahinda as President

Before President Mahinda Rajapaksha left this position after the elections' defeat he finally made a public address to the masses. On that occasion this is what he said: "My dear public....
I bend down to your public opinion with great respect. As such, I hand over today the position of President to Mr. Maithreepala Sirisena whom you chose as the President. In this statement I mentioned in Mahinda Chinthanaya of 2005 that I am not the ruler of this country but only the temporary guardian.

As much as I carried out what I promised the masses in Mahinda Chinthanaya, this is the moment that I put that watchword into action.

The moment I leave the position of guardianship, I make a request from the entire nation. To unite the country and to dispel the fear in your hearts; thousands of children in this country were laid to rest on this ground. The three Forces, the Police and the Civil Aarakshaka Balakaaya .... all of them provided protection.

My dear sons and daughters .... I have made a charming and united country. I wish from the bottom of my heart for the President who rules this country that he would be endowed with strength and courage to rule this country. The future given over to my hands .... I hand over this future with great dedication. Blessings of the Triple Gem to you!"
