Three dead from .... Shashindra's jeep accident!
Three persons had died and four persons have sustained injuries in the jeep-tipper accident which took place early this morning around 1.30 in Buttala, Mahagodayaya area.
The accident occured when a backup jeep which was travelling right in front of the chain of security vehicles escorting Uva Chief Minister Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksha having collided with a tipper vehicle that had been parked.
Two of the three who died were police officers in the jeep. Four others sustained injuries and they are being treated at Moneragala General Hospital.
The jeep carrying the said security officers of Uva Chief Minister Mr. Shashindra Rajapaksha had been travelling at a high speed and this accident had happened as the parked tipper had not come into notice.
The two police officers who died were those who were on duty as Security Officers of the Chief Minister. Those who have been hospitalised are four other security officers of the Chief Minister.
The police suspect that the cause for the accident maybe because the driver of the jeep had fallen asleep while at the wheel.
