Omniscient sacred relic-fraud in Mirijjawela!

Sumanawathi who betrayed dead son ....  deceiving villagers saying that relics were found .... in shrine-room in house

When news spread around on Il Poya Day that there were relics to be seen in the shrine-room of a house in Hambanthota, Mirijawela area, people in the area were seen trickling in large numbers to worship these relics and in the process it had even been considered by some as a miracle because of the phenomenon that the number of relics began increasing day by day.
However, as some youngsters had been vigilant, what later was revealed was that the house of Sumanawathi the house owner where this miracle had taken place was a case where she had surreptiously hidden some silicon pieces in the palm of her hands and had been depositing those there on the pretense of coming there to worship the relics.

After this situation came to light, this woman and residents of this house had tried to flee from there. However, the villagers who were agitated over this had beaten them up and had to be warded in hospital.

Sumanawathi who pretended to villagers that 4 relics was found there last 6th, Il Poya Day had this to say: "I lost my son 17 years back, but I had kept on seeing him continuously in my dreams. On the night of the 5th, he appeared in a dream and said, 'Amme .... tomorrow some special incident will happen. So clean up the place near the Buddha lamp'.

So I did as instructed and was just about to leave after placing the lamp when I noticed something like pearls near the lamp. No sooner I informed the monk in the temple, the monk came and said that those were relics and later he took them away to the temple. After that when I went once again to the shrine room to keep the afternoon pooja, I observed that there were some more relics there".

As such, last 6th, 4 relics and 7 relics on the 7th were to be noticed, they said. Consequently, the public incessantly began to visit this house. The householders were compelled to put up boards and the like to control the crowd. Among those boards were announcements requesting the public to come clean and taking photos was prohibited.

However, some media personnel in the area and a few youth in the area who happened to conduct an inquiry into this phenomenon were able to expose the truth behind this episode day-before-yesterday (8). They were able to reveal that the house owner woman had been mixing saffron-coloured water to silicon pieces and after coloring them that way had displayed them as relics and had hidden them and was saying that those relics are being worshipped. And with this motive she had placed them there, it was exposed.

After this revelation, the villagers who were struck with shock and having realised that they were hoodwinked, bean to assault the woman concerned as being instrumental in this fraud and also a youth of about 30 years from Kalutara area allegedly having got involved in this hoax.

Hambanthota Police had intervened and taken the youth into custody and later admitted him to Hambanthota Hospital.

The villagers complain against the monk of the village temple with regard to this incident. By now the house concerned has been given police protection.
