Ratnapura police sergeant interdicted

Suspension of duties of police officer.... who assaulted Ratnapura woman

Police sources say that the police sergeant who is accused of assaulting a woman in the town of Ratnapura recently, was sent on vacation of post.

The police communique says: "While the video and photos have been broadcast and published by the electronic and printed media, an investigation has commenced in this respect.

Subsequent to the initial investigation, the duties of the police sergeant has been withdrawn and interdicted from today. Further inquiries are underway regarding this incident to implement courts procedures and to take action under the criminal code.
