Ratnapura woman assaulted by police -- speaks out

All news about a police officer assaulting a Ratnapura woman which created a sensation in the internet recently has been exposed.
The assault has taken place because when a police officer had attempted to get the consent of the twilight woman to go to bed with her gratis his, request has been turned down by her.On this personal matter, this officer had misused his powers of official duties and publicly punished the woman giving the impression that it was being done for some other offence.

The incident had taken place at Ratnapura bus-halt in front of Co-op City.

Th woman who was engaged in prostitution has told the media that this police sergeant had assaulted her brutally because she had not consented to go to bed with him. She is a resident of Kanadola area in Ratnapura and had admitted that she used to haunt the streets looking for men with the motive of earning some money to feed her children.

Though a few days previously this police officer had made advances on her with the intention of taking advantage of her, she has rejected his proposals. She says that he had repeated the same suggestion thrice on which occasions too she had rejected him and for this reason he had developed an anger towards her. According to what she said, it is inferred that the police officer concerned had obstructed her profession and had tried to make use of her without making any payment to her.

The woman further says that this police officer had planned a strategy to take revenge from her by conniving with a woman named Ganga and had asked her to pick up a quarrel with her and on the day of the incident, when the two women were engaged in the quarrel with each other, according to a set plan he had worked out; the other woman called this police officer and had asked him to beat her.

As such, the police officer arrived to the spot and had reprimanded her in obscene language and had further assaulted her; later had kicked her by putting her on the ground.

What circulated over the internet was a video recorded over a mobile phone.

Whatever it is, what she expressed with some reservation was that though she had gone to the police station to lodge an entry, since the inspector of police was not available, she had turned back and come.

The husband of this woman says that 8 days have elapsed after the incident and that his wife was suffering from a headache and vomittish feeling.

He also said that his wife as a custom used to hover around the bus-halt and on this particular day too she had gone with him to town and that though he had arrived on time, his wife had stopped there at the bus-halt.

The name of this sergeant has not been disclosed; but it was announced last evening by the police media office that he had been dismissed from service.
