SAITM to be restored because politicians' children studying there?

The All-Island Medical Association revealed at a media briefing held yesterday that the government is striving to somehow or other establish the Malabe Private Medical College though it is an institution without a criteria; for the reason that a number of relatives and friends of politicians, it is observed, are studying at that institute.
According to what Dr. Asanga of the Association said, the Prime Minister's son Anuradha Jayaratna's wife, Rohitha Abeygoonawardena's daughter, daughter of Mohan Lal Grero's brother, Rajitha Senaratna's daughter-in-law are all following their education there while parliamentarian Sudarshani Fernandopulle's daughter has studied there for a short period and has left.

What the Secretary of the Association, Dr. Jayantha Bandara said was that creating a doctor should not be undermined as producing some item of goods and that this is a profession where responsibility should be undertaken about the health of the masses in the country. Therefore,an attempt is made to bestow doctors in this manner because of affording an opportunity for children and relatives of politicians to secure the Degree in Medicine for money.

He also said that at a time when action is being taken to legalise the Private Medical College and is executing laws in order to provide government hospitals to conduct clinics by its students, the Sri Lanka Medical Council has become a puppet and has to keep just looking up.
