Wasanthi to take legal action against ... a radio channel
Popular actress Wasanthi Chathurani is taking steps to sue a radio channel saying that her goodwill has been brought into disrepute. She had made a statement to Neth FM Belummahara programme and had got disappointed over the manner in which that statement had been broadcast over the radio and the manner in which
information had been presented after that by the programme; slinging mud at her, thus destroying the trust the Sri Lankan fans of hers had been resting on her which has made her take these steps to launch legal action in this connection.
What she mentions is that about 2 months before, she and another group had formed a Kala Sangamaya on behalf of the other artistes to break down the authority of a handful of artistes who go behind this government to reap private benefits to fill their own stomachs. She infers that one Saman Dissanayaka who was appointed the President of the said Sangamaya where she is the Secretary is being scorned at in a revengeful attitude. Those who act in this manner have brought up a topic in relation to his personal life with the intention of dissolving the Association, these days. Though she says that she is unaware of the pros and cons of the private life of the President who works with him, she is prepared to seek the assistance of the police to represent on his behalf, because this mud-slinging activity is now directed towards her too. Wasanthi who has that if his behaviour is confirmed as blameful, she would take steps to come forward to take action and has also once again reiterated that there is some group of individuals behind this move engaged in slinging mud.
She had pointed out the blunder of directing the programme in a one-sided manner, on the first day itself when she was invited to discuss about a problem concerning Chandi, wife of Late tele-director Nalaka Wedamulla and Saman Dissanayaka in the Belumgala programme conducted for 2 days, Wasanthi Chathurani had presented her free views on the occasion by securing statements from other individuals for the purpose of pointing out that the programme has been directed in a lop-sided manner against her.
She expressed that she has no reservations whatsoever to speak out against women harassment anywhere; but according to information she has received and according to investigations carried out by the police, she says the truth over this issue and the truth that she has appeared on behalf of the truth would come to light in the near future.
She further remarks that this programme which does not believe that there could be two sides to any issue, presents the opinion in a partial manner and has taken the law into their own hands even when there is a case pending in courts, thus presenting one side of the story.
When presenting ideas in this fashion, she indicates that they have used the media to fight those who are against their opinion.
On the occasion when she went to police when the complaint against the said programme was being inquired into by police, she says that nobody had turned up to represent the radio channel concerned and that those of the Kala Sangamaya have rallied round her on this occasion and that she would be taking measures to file action, thus putting a stop to this programme through the law.
