Lady who shoplifted from Food City .... in the guise of a doctor .... nabbed (CCTV)
A lady who had made use of her social position as a doctor apparently, was recently nabbed for having got involved in theft of goods at a supermarket.
This lady who often frequented the Food City outlet in Ambalantota town had misled its employees by posing off as a doctor and under such circumstances they had no suspicion about her, which she had made use of to her advantage.
The lady concerned had known the employees in the said outlet for a period of time and they were not at all suspicious about her movements or involvement with this theft. It was because she used to arrive in a vehicle carrying the logo of the medical profession and had comported herself in a fitting manner within the premises, thus conveying an image suitable to her position.
Officials who had been vigilant about thefts taking place on several occasions in the outlet detected the manner in which she had been stealing the articles as was seen on CCTV cameras and finally handed over the suspect to the police.
The suspect who was none other than the said 'doctor' had purchased the articles and had as usual paid the money for the articles. However, the security personnel had made a check on her handbag in which instance it was found that she had stolen perfume and various types of cosmetic articles to the tune of about Rs. 5000.
On police interrogation it was revealed that the supposed doctor was a spinster of 35 years and was a sister by relationship of to a lady doctor of Ambalantota area and that she had purchased these goods by obtaining the permission of the said lady doctor to use her vehicle for a short period in order to visit the outlet. It is her custom to accompany the lady doctor's 4 year old child when coming to the outlet in the vehicle.
It was revealed that on a number of occasions too that she had been involved in similar activities. The manner in which she had poked the stolen articles into her handbag is to be clearly observed on security camera footage.
After being produced before Hambantota courts, she had been released on bail.
