Cupid Arunadeva of 11 marriages-fame ....nabbed in Mahiyangana
The police have been successful in cordoning Arunadeva Pushpakanthan Atapattu (42) whom they were searching for a long time and who had married 11 times all over the country and also was involved in financial frauds through such processes. He was arrested in Mahiyangana. He had committed several monetary frauds on individuals as well as institutions for which crimes the Criminal Investigation
Department had filed action against Arunadeva in Hambantota, Kaduwela and Matara Magistrate Courts and these cases are presently being heard. Since the suspect had been absconding without appearing for these cases, warrants have been issued to arrest him.
Arunadeva had been on the lookout for females who had some wealth and after promising to marry them, had fled after grabbing their money while some others he had actually married and had later got hold of their wealth and property and finally deserted them. In these instances he had been using various names and the women he had so deserted are large in number.
During the past, his exploits were revealed in a number of articles in the press.
Arunadeva is supposed to possess the knack of luring women at first sight. The police have received information that Arunadeva has been living in Moneragala, Dombagahawela and Matara Godagama areas flitting from one place to another after he became a suspect wanted by the police for the offence of multiple-marriages and monetary cheating.
Finally, on a tip off received, the Mahiyangana police were able to arrest him.
After being produced before Mahiyangana Magistrate Court, Acting Magistrate, Mr. S. Govinna ordered that the suspect be remanded until 20th of this month.
