Watawala schoolgirl .... commits suicide

 

Grade 10 student hangs herself in the kitchen in the house ....
says in letter that the teacher scolded her

A case is heard from Hatton area where a student has committed suicide in her own house for being disappointed because she has been reprimanded by her class teacher.

This student had hanged herself in the kitchen of her house when nobody had been around last evening (8) about 6 o'clock. She was a student studying in grade 10 and before hanging herself she had left a letter behind to the effect that she was unable to bear the class teacher scolding her continuously with


regard to  her studies and further that she was humiliated in the presence of the other school students saying that someone else from another class has to be brought to do her studies which she reiterates brought her mental anguish.

the deceased is a 15 year old girl named Pushpanadan Sarada, resident in Hatton, Kuilawaththa Wathuyaya and studying in grade 10 at Kuilwath Tamil Maha Vidyalaya which is under the administration of the Hatton Education Office.

The dead body is at present lying at Watawala Hospital and the Coroner into Sudden Deaths had ordered the body to be directed to the Nawalapitiya JMO for further examination.

Watawala police are conducting investigations in this connection.
