Death of teacher who hanged himself in school sports room ....
a mystery!
The incident of a dead body of the Physical Education Instructor found hanging last morning (21) in Hindu College, Bambalapitiya still remains a mystery!
though it was revealed from earlier investigations that the death had occured a few days ago according to police reports,it was later found that he had hanged himself the previous night in the room of the hostel where his sports equipment were stored.
His body was found after an emergency phone call received by the police. though the wife of the deceased had given him a call the night before the incident she had found the phone switched off. Her husband who used to contact her by phone every week, having switched off the phone unlike on other days had aroused the suspicion of his wife who had subsequently taken steps to contact another friendly teacher and had asked him to inquire about her husband and when trying to examine the hostel in the night, it had been observed the the door was locked from inside. The door was then broken down on which occasion it was seen that this Teacher-in-Charge of physical education was found dead, hanging from a type of string used in fishing.
The deceased was a 37 year old teacher hailing from Galpola, Medagama, Ilukhena area in Kuliyapitiya, named Francis Camillus.
The body kept in the same place where the incident had occured under police protection was later identified by his wife and relatives. the deceased teacher was a father of 2 children; his daughter was aged 6 years while the son was 2 years of age. The wife of the deceased was herself a Teacher-in-Charge of Sports at a school in Kuliyapitiya. According to what she says, her husband had not spoken to her on the night of last 19th over the phone and on phone calls given on previous days he had spoken to her in a very pleasant manner. She had further said that he had no problems worrying him. As such,she said that she cannot accept this death as a case of suicide and what she says is that it could be a case of murder.
the police also said that they did not come across any letter or document referring to the death at the place of hanging.
The Magisterial post mortem was expected to e held yesterday (21). Bambalapitiya police are conducting further investigations.
