Mentally-ill army soldier who faced a beating from girl's pointed shoe ....
for having leaned on body near mud-pit
We once and again come to hear of women and girls taking a slipper into their hands with the motive of teaching a lesson to young men who purposely try to knock on their body while walking on the road.
Such an incident was recently reported from Melsiripura area. It was an incident where a young girl had assaulted a former army soldier suffering from a mental condition and thus injured him.
It is learnt that this army soldier who was walking on the road had accidentally knocked on the body of a girl, at which point she had assaulted him seriously with her pointed shoes. As a result of the assault a brother of the girl who was in the vicinity too had assaulted him seriously at the same location.
However, the army soldier who was a mental patient had said that he did not knock on her body on purpose and that when he was trying to avoid a muddy spot while walking on the road, had accidentally knocked on her body. After this army soldier had come to the police station in the company of a relative and lodged an entry in this respect, a person who abetted in the above-said fray was taken into custody on suspicion. The girl connected to the incident was asked to report today to Gokarella police.
The victim of this assault was a former army soldier, 41 years of age and a resident of Melsiripura himself. The said army soldier had joined the army force in the year 1992 and is a person who has become a mental patient as a result of a shock sustained from a bomb blast in Batticaloa District.
What he said was that when he was walking on the road he had come across a spot filled with mud and as it was obviously unpleasant, he had got on top of a mound there and the girl who was passing the same place had stepped on the same mound of earth where he himself was and bodies of both of them had knocked against each other and at that very moment the girl had accused him of knocking on her body with intention and had reprimanded him saying, "Wait will you .... I'll teach you a lesson!" after which she had removed a pointed shoe she had been wearing at that time assaulting him over and over again. He further says that an individual purported to be her brother who had been approaching from behind had pushed him into this pit filled with mud and then fled after assaulting him.
As a consequence of this battering, the former army soldier had suffered injuries on his head and at 11 places in surrounding areas of his body and has received treatment for those injuries.
Gokarella Police are conducting further inquiries on this matter.
