and in hospital

A notorious sex rapist who had abducted a young girl in Palaviya area in Puttalam and was about to rape her, had fallen into a deep pit and subsequently admitted to Puttalam Base Hospital having received injuries.

The incident has taken place in Ruwanpura area in Palaviya, Puttalam last 27th at approximately 7.oo in the night. The victim is a 21 year old girl living in Palaviya and had been serving at a private communication institute in the town of Puttalam. She had finished her work and as usual going home when 3 persons who had come in a three-wheeler had abducted her at Palaviya, Nagavilluwa area. The suspect who had taken her to a lonely plot of land had then removed her clothing. Later, when forcibly trying to take her to a land closeby, the main suspect had fallen into a deep pit in the land. At that point, one of his legs had been fractured. The girl who then made use of this opportunity had feed herself and had taken steps to inform neighbours in the surrounding area, after which the suspect was cornered.As the suspect's leg was incapacitated, he was admitted to Puttalam Base Hospital.

When under treatment under police protection, relevant information about the suspect was submitted to courts by the police. Mr. Ranga Dissanayaka, District Judge, Puttalam ordered that the suspect be remanded until 9th of next month.

Police said that 2 more suspects connected to the crime are to be taken into custody.

At present, the aforementioned suspect is undergoing treatment at Puttalam Base Hospital under security of prison guards. Police also said that 5 other rape cases are pending against this suspect at Puttalam courts. Inspector of Police, Mr. Kumarasingha of Puttalam Police Criminal Offences Unit and other offcers are conducting further inquiries.
