Nine year old child escapes death because of being thrown out

A van which had been travelling from Kandy to Kataragama early this morning had fallen into a Wewa and 5 persons of the persons who were travelling in the van had died.

The accident has occured early this morning (19) around 4.30 close to Detagamuwa Wewa, Kataragama. The only individual who was able to escape death


was a small child who was thrown out of the vehicle before the accident happened.

It was a group of residents from Ambetenna area in Katugastota, Kandy who had died in the accident and they had faced this tragedy while on their way to Kataragama. Among the dead were 3 females and 2 males while the only person who escaped death was a child aged around 9 years.

The small child who was among the living had at the moment of the accident got thrown out of the van and then had taken steps to go to a nearby house and inform residents about this incident after which the neighbourhood who arrived at the scene of the accident had taken passengers out of the vehicle. They had then got them hospitalized at the Kataragama Provincial Hospital. However, by then all of them had passed away.

Kataragama police have commenced investigations into the incident. Kataragama police have suspected that this accident has happened as a result of the driver of the van having fallen asleep.The dead bodies are lying at Kataragama Provincial Hospital.
