A gang transporting cattle for illicit purposes who knew that transporting such cattle without a permit would end up in police had used the strategy of averting it by by using a Pajero for this purpose. This incident was reported from Hambantota.

The racket where cattle slaughtered illegally at the abattoir belonging to the Hambantota municipal council were transported to Colombo to sell them and this racket had been going on for sometime.

As a result of a telephone call received by Hambantota Mayor early this morning around 5, and after checking on the information, the said abattoir was raided with 2 suspects being nabbed together with a luxury-type Pajero jeep.

The sight of a large heap of cattle flesh on the rear seat of the said vehicle was indeed a horrible scene. police said that flesh of 4 cattle meant for transportation were observed there. When the raid was being conducted, 2 other suspects had fled the scene and it was found that the suspects who were taken into custody were residents of Bandaragama area and it was revealed that an attempt had been taken to transport this cattle flesh in an illegal manner to be cooked for a wedding function.

Hambantota police are making investigations to arrest the suspects who had fled and the other suspects are to be produced in courts.
