Sri Lankan cricket player Lasith Malinga who gave an interview to a weekend newspaper in the recent past had mentioned that he is a player who doesn't believe in luck.

Though he was the vice captain under Matthews, he says that


later when that captaincy was changed, he was not given the captainship and instead it was bestowed on Chandimal .... and under such circumstances it was an unlucky occasion for him.

*Some people say that you are a lucky person ... some say that you are a capable person. What do you say .... do you say that you got all this due to your luck or skill?
 I don't believe in this thing called luck. When Mahela Jayawardena stepped down from T20 captaincy in 2012, Matthews was captain and I was the vice captain. It was an appointment given by the Cricket Board for 1 year. Under Matthew' leadership we were able to win 2 matches in Australia. Even at tat time we were we were the No. 1 T20 team. After coming to Sri Lanka, Angelo Matthews was removed from T20 captainship and had been appointed captain of Tests and One-day matches. Then Chandimal was brought in as the captain of T20 matches.I don't know the reason why Chandimal was appointed as captain when I was the vice captain then. I think that I was made the captain too late when considering the experience I gained at T20 matches and abilities displayed by me. That's why I always think that I am a player who came to the team more than the luck ... because of my skill. If I had the luck, I would have got many more things. I have not got any of those things before this. It was because of my skills that I went for the IPL too.

*if you are given the captainship in the future also, will you take it up?
 yes. When I went for the Tournament, I was the vice captain. Dinesh Chandimal was the captain of T20 for one-half years.Unfortunately, he was forbidden from the England tour. Because of this, I was appointed as captain. After that it was decided that Dinesh Chandimal be removed and keep me on a continuous basis. So ... what I think is that in the future I will be the captain for T20s. If they tell me that a younger player would be considered for captainship ... I'll hand over the captainship and go way. I am not a player who went running behind captainship. I play and I played for my country.Friends spoke to me about me. Nobody focused on my skills and abilities. People judged me on my tinting my hair ... my wearing ear studs. In the past, allegations were aimed at me saying that I was not playing for my country. I am not sad about all that.
