Jayawardenepura Medical student commits suicide ...
by jumping in front of train
not being able to bear lost love

Last afternoon at about 1 o'clock, a young girl who was staying near the railway station near Ramakrishna Road, Wellawatta had committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train.

On inquiries made, it was found that the deceased was Kavindi Yashoda Jayawardena, a 22 year old undergraduate of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura and a Medical student in her 2nd Year. Her parents too happen to be doctors serving at Colombo Lady Ridgeway Hospital.

Nobody ever thought that this girl who was living down Epitamulla Road, Pita Kotte would come to this spot and commit a tragedy of this nature.

She had jumped in front of a train which was travelling from Matara to Anuradhapura around Wellawatta area at about 1.10 in the afternoon. Her body was totally crushed and death was spontaneous.

Police suspect that the reason for suicide was her sorrow over her broken love affair. Police also said that investigations are being conducted to check the last telephone calls she had received on her mobile phone.

The post-mortem is to be held on Saturday at Kalubowila Hospital.
