Home-based treasure-mining at Anuradhapura

because exorcist instructed so
A person who had tried to dig a pit 12 feet deep in search of a treasure in the middle of a hall in the house in Thavarakkulama area in Anuradhapura was caught by the police.

This person had been engaged in business for some time. However, later he had gone bankrupt and being destitute had thought of becoming rich through supernatural means when an exorcist had told him that there is a

treasure beneath the earth in the house. Since the exorcist told him that there is a treasure beneath the earth in the house in the hall after checking from an oracle; after which the house-owner had decided to take positive action. The exorcist had suggested that when a casket containing gold, jewels and gems in the earth below in the house is available, there is nothing more to think of developing the business and that the treasure has come close to him ... so, it could be taken.As such, the said house-owner had gone about digging a pit 12 feet deep in the centre of the hall in the house ... most surreptiously. However, at the beginning, nothing had been found. The exorcist had then suggested that another 15 feet tunnel be dug in the same pit, thus leading the house-owner astray.Accordingly, he had taken steps to dig another 15 feet across,within the pit. In the meantime, the exorcist had slowly kept a small Buddha statue and a fake gemstone inside the tunnel, thus cheating the house-owner.The latter had not given up, thinking to himself that the treasure was close at hand. Neighbours began to sniff that some weird activity was taking place within this house and it was then that the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the area received the message regarding this activity.

When police arrived on the scene, a plank had been placed on top of the pit and already dug in order to cover it while a mat was placed on top and the wife of the businessman was sleeping on the mat to give the impression that she was sick. When the police questioned her about a pit being dug, she pretended not to know anything about it and when they removed the mat, the pit was to be seen. Even at that moment, both the house-owner and the exorcist had been inside the pit.

It was reported that every time the pit was being dug, the earth and soil removed was put into a cover and heaped up in a room ad later it was taken in a lorry to another spot.

After the police raid, the exorcist, the house-owner and the owner of the lorry concerned were taken into police custody. Court action is to be taken in future.
