Monk preaches politics at Temple Trees Bana

The usual religious sermon was seen conducted with a thero in attendance at Temple Trees, the official residence of the Hon. President on Friday (Feb 14) Navam PoyaDay.
As expected, that day too a large gathering of devotees were present there. The sermon on that day was conducted by a Sri Lankan thero who was living in Australia. After the sermon was over, the crowd were heading for the exit when another
thero went up to the exit and stood there with a bundle of leaflets in his hand. He then started distributing the leaflets one by one to each and every individual who was coming out. "Ah ..... I'm contesting from Colombo .... give me also a Preferential vote", the thero told the crowd coming out.

The President Security realised that what was happening was not opportune .... but since it was monk, there was nothing they could do. So,they stood close to this thero watching the proceedings taking place as if to express their displeasure. The thero who then noticed the Security looking around, quickly stopped his activities and it is learnt that he had then promptly poked the leaflets he had in his hands into his bag and had volunteered to walk out.

Later, on inquiring it was reported that the monk who distributed leaflets in this manner was Galagama Dhammarasi Thero who was contesting the Colombo seat on the ruling party ticket.
