Chandana Liyanaarachchi struck by stone ...
while singing
Popular singer Chandana Liyanaarachchi who was singing at a musical show in Mahawa on the 8th of this month was struck with a stone. He had sung and finished his first song and amidst great applause from the crowd he was about to sing his second song when he was hit with a somewhat big stone thrown by somebody in the crowd and it had struck him on the face; he had then fallen on
the stage. The stone had struck him very close to his eye. Chandana's face was injured just a fraction below his eye and he had to be admitted to hospital. Presently he is recovering from the mishap. Chandana Liyanaarachchi had this to say in relation to the accident:
"We sing on stage not expecting somebody to harass us. I have performed on stage for the past 20 years and a thing like this has never happened. I took part in this musical show at random because of an invitation of a friend of mine. I couldn't bear it when the stone hit me. It was by god's grace that my eye was saved. Artistes sing songs to entertain the fans. So doing a thing like this to people like that is wrong".
After police inquiries conducted recently, it was revealed that this stone-throwing incident had occured as a result of a conflict that had taken place between two persons who had come to see the show and that the stone had not been purposely aimed at Chandana and that since the conflict had taken place in close proximity to the stage, the stone had hit him.
