A book on behalf of the father .... from his son
Today (Dec 30) is one year since the death of popular cricket commentator Tony Greig who loved the island of Sri Lanka. Mark Greig, his son from Tony's first marriage has taken steps to write a book about his father by collecting facts about Tony's life of romance mixed with the game of cricket.
It is understood that a host of revelations hitherto unrevealed in the life of Tony have been exposed in this book. Tony Greig was 66 years old at the time of his death. Tony who was a popular character among Sri Lankan cricket fans had been under treatment for cancer of the lung and was admitted to a hospital in Sydney, Australia as a result of a heart attack.
Anthony William Greig was born in Capetown in South Africa in the year 1946 came to be known by everybody by the name of Tony Greig. Tony represented the England cricket team as an alrounder in the year 1972 and had amassed 3,599 runs in 58 Test matches. The number of wickets he had claimed is 141 in number. He was successful in becoming the captain of the England team. However,in 1977 Tony bade goodbye to cricket. However, he made the game of cricket a part of his life and commenced his second journey in life as a cricket commentator.
It was a sensitive feeling that Mr. Tony Greig had for the Sri Lankan cricket team. His words and comments at the time Sri Lanka happened to win the World Cup in the year 1996 were a strength beyond limits not only for cricket fans, but for the cricketers themselves. Mr. Tony Greig happened to also introduce some cricketers by names such as Captain Cool, Master Blaster and Little Kalu and Tony displayed a great affection for nature and natural beauty of Sri Lanka. When Tony Greig arrived in Sri Lanka to give commentaries in the 20/20 World Cup competition held here in the year 2012, several medical examinations were performed in connection with his lung cancer.
Tony Greig's son who had written a book on his father and made his comments this morning to an Australia radio programme. "He's a hero for me ... always. He's a good father to me. From the day I was able to stand on my own two feet ... what I happened to hear about him was that he was someone who had characteristics of a great personality. He became a hero to m because of certain qualities of bravery that he possessed. I tried to reveal all that in this book".
