Minister Welgama's genuine engine

Isn't it a danger for an engine to travel on its own?
-- Buddhika m.p.
My engine of course  is okay
-- Minister Welgama

The incident of the ghost engine which travelled on its own in a dangerous manner on December 5th and was found in Ratmalana became the topic of discussion among many people. It was a serious mistake of the Railway Department that a railway engine had travelled in this manner risking public life and property and it is a sorry state of affairs that there is no one who had come forward to accept the responsibility.

Member of parliament Mr. Buddhika Pathirana yesterday (Dec 5) questioned Transport Minister Kumara Welgama who was politically responsible for this incident in parliament and the Minister took it as a joke and replied "My engine works well".

The dialogue that ensued in parliament on this subject is as follows:

Member of parliament: Though what we have today is a question on Agriculture, I want to question about a railway engine travelling for 15 kms.

Hon. Speaker: Yes .... an engine could travel on a dam.

Buddhika, m.p. : Fantastic no ... the engine has gone from Dematagoda to Mount Lavinia.

Minister Welgama: No .... can that question be asked Hon. Speaker .... questions have been asked on farming ... and now asking about an engine.

Hon. Speaker: If there are questions about engines ... meet in person.

Minister Welgama: My engine of course is very good. Come to our village and see will you the difference in the engine.

Hon. Speaker: People of Matugama too are watching this moment live.
