Minister Reginald's daughter's unexpected death

Sudden death by heart attack .... of Minister Reginald Cooray's daughter during MPhil exam

Daughter of Mr. Reginald Cooray, Minister of  Minor Export Crop Promotion passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack yesterday (20 Dec) morning.

The deceased Muditha Sanjeewani Cooray was 35 years old at the time of her death. It is suspected that the mental jerk may have given rise to the heart attack which occurred during an activity she was involved in.

Mrs. Muditha Cooray who was serving as a lecture at the University of Colombo had to present her dissertation of her M.Phil degree day before yesterday. She is supposed to have prepared herself in advance for this occasion and had presented herself to the board of examiners with great hopes. But she had considered it so seriously because of an examination activity and had attended to it with some stress.

Her speech was noticed to be somewhat blurred and when the examiners took keen notice about it, she had held on to her chest and bent down.

This heart attack has occured during the course of her presentation. When she had displayed some uneasiness in the presence of the board of examiners, they had promptly admitted her to Kiribathgoda hospital. Later she was transferred to Ragama hospital. However, on admission it was found that she had breathed her last.

Mrs. Muditha Sanjeewani Cooray is the mother of three and is an Old Girl of St. Paul's Convent, Kalutara.
